Pinaki, my other question would be in terms of… I’ve been watching you since 2016, and I remember the day you joined Myntra as an SEO manager. It’s been about four years, from 2016 to 2020, and he’s gone from being an SEO manager to now an Associate General Manager of global customer search experience. You have created a wonderful  story for yourself in terms of growth. But there are plenty of other SEO folks who haven’t grown as well as you. What would be your suggestions for those people who are in the SEO industry and would like to grow in the industry, especially like you? [25:25] Pinaki : Thank you, Kaushal.

That is a very, very important question that you have asked. And one of my experiences… in fact, one of the things I learned from my mistakes in the industry is to quantify as much as possible all your successes. When I say that, I’m saying you need… whatever minor successes you see in your industry, specifically in SEO or any other industry. okay? You need to quantify that it’s not just limited to traffic: SEO or SEM or any other digital marketing input, it’s not just traffic related. Show how this improves your business, show how this improves your brand, show how this improves your top of mind.

Because these are the metrics that are easily digested by C-suite executives. They may not know about SEO, but when you talk about it, “Hey, you know this activity I’m leading has resulted in 1.5 to 2x growth in business.” That’s what they would love to hear. okay? And that’s when they love, I mean, you would grow up. So if they love it, you would grow up. If they don’t understand you, you may not have that flexibility or that path to grow. So I say this based on my experience, and that’s what SEO professionals specifically in this industry have to learn, to see everything from a business perspective and not just be limited to working in silos just on SEO. [27:02] Kaushal : Yeah, that’s a wonderful suggestion, Pinaki.

Because I see that many of these professionals just limit themselves to rankings and see it only from a ranking perspective, which is not the language that senior management speaks. And that’s where if they start speaking the language of top management, they can also be among top management like you. [27:21] Pinaki : Exactly! And one more thing I would like to highlight, Kaushal. When you want to grow, show your work in the simplest way possible to your top executives. Because they won’t understand the nuances of SEO, CTR, CPC bounce rate, blah blah blah etc. They’ll be like, you know, “What’s the bottom line?” So focus on the bottom line, and the bottom line has to be married to the business. So yeah, that’s a perfect analogy I would say. [27:47] Kaushal : Thank you. Cute. And Pinaki, growing up so fast in recent years is not an easy thing.

What keeps you focused on growth? [27:58] Pinaki : This is a very… again a very interesting question. And one of the things that I’ve learned, actually a question that I’d like to highlight here is that the things that I’ve learned from my past mistakes is that I was one of them when in the early days of my career I never used to focus on the final big picture of how my activities are affecting the entire business. okay? Now that is a great learning. It took time for me to understand that, “Hey, I think I need to look at the big picture and not limit myself to just traffic and ranking SEO activities entirely.” So when I say mistakes… and when you make mistakes, of course you and when you realize it, you know how to work to fix it, how to rectify it.
