BSI warns against using iOS app “Mail”

The iOS Mail app is affected by two serious security vulnerabilities on all iOS versions , back to iOS 6. This allows attackers to compromise the affected iPhone or iPad by sending an email. This potentially allows them to read, modify, and delete emails.

Possible for successful attackers is subject to chinese overseas europe database  further investigation. The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) considers these vulnerabilities to be very critical. No patches are currently available for the two vulnerabilities.

According to media reports, the vulnerabilities are already being actively exploited. Until appropriate patches are available, users should uninstall the “Mail” app on Apple iOS or, alternatively, deactivate the accounts linked to this app.

 

BSI President Arne Schönbohm said:

“The BSI considers these vulnerabilities to be particularly critical. They allow attackers to manipulate large parts of the email communication on the affected devices. Furthermore, no patch is currently available. This puts thousands of iPhones denise baker dod  and iPads belonging to private individuals, companies , and government agencies at acute risk. We are in contact with Apple and have called on the company to develop a solution to secure their products as quickly as possible.”

The possibilities for exploiting the vulnerabilities vary depending on the iOS version. While in iOS 13, simply receiving a malicious email is sufficient to trigger the vulnerability, in iOS 12 and later, the email must also be opened by the user.

 

The BSI recommends:

  • Deleting the Mail app or turning off synchronization
  • After implementation of point 1, otherbelgium numbers   apps or webmail can be used to retrieve and read emails until further notice.
  • The iOS update announced by Apple should be installed as soon as possible as soon as it is available.
